We take pride in the high quality of fiber cutting machines that Van der Mast develops and produces. The machines and knifes that are used in our machines have a very long life. But still we found it was time to take the extra step in taking responsibility for our planet.
Therefore we are making a commitment to take steps in reducing, reusing and recycling.
Re.duce
Packaging and shipping
From now on, all our European customers will only receive full paper packaging for smaller packages, even tape-free, made from the lowest-rated jiffy pulp.
If this works well, we will be doing the same for customers outside of the EU.
We are also investigating possibilities to avoid using air cargo for shipments outside of the EU.
Parts
Reducing is also possible by using more wear-resistant or tougher materials or coatings for all our wearing parts.
We have three main wearing parts in our machines: knifes, ribs and rollers. Below you can see the difference in expected life span. Blue is the current situation, green is the expectancy when using more durable materials.

Protective coatings
We are doing research on the treatment of the steel parts with a coating.
Technically these parts can last indefinitely if you replace the coating every now and then.
Reuse of chopping blades
Technically it is possible to reuse blades up to four times. On the right you see blades that have been used three times.
Re.cycle
We are doing research into alternative rubber-like materials that can be recycled and would like to ask you to get involved.
